Zhuhai border crossings set new record, top 100 million

The Zhuhai General Frontier Inspection Station has confirmed that the total number of inbound and outbound travelers at checkpoints connecting to Macau and Hong Kong surpassed 100 million so far in 2025.

The milestone was reached 22 days earlier than last year. The station also recorded its highest-ever single-day volume, with 823,000 crossings.

The increase reflects a sharp rise in cross-border activity among residents of Hong Kong, Macau, and mainland China.

According to CCTV, year-to-date figures show 42.58 million crossings by Hong Kong and Macau residents, a 12% rise from the previous year. Mainland residents accounted for 56.09 million crossings, a 14% increase.

The number of foreign travelers entering mainland China via Hong Kong and Macau has also surged, driven by new visa-free entry policies.

A total of 880,000 foreign entries have been recorded this year in Zhuhai, including 170,000 visa-free arrivals – up 79% from 2024.

Authorities said they will continue efforts to improve clearance efficiency at ports by advancing facial recognition technology and exploring more streamlined inspection systems.

These measures are aimed at supporting smoother flow of people, vehicles, and goods across the region’s busy border points. Staff Reporter
