Infant drowns in bath while parents fall asleep
A Japanese baby drowned in a bathtub in the Conrad Macao Hotel on Christmas day whilst taking a bath with his parents, who admitted to having had a few drinks before the fatal incident occurred. The parents of the child are currently under investigation by the Judiciary Police.
The tragedy occurred at approximately 10 p.m. when the Japanese couple were relaxing with their two newborn infants in a bathtub.
According to the testimony, the police authorities said that the pair involuntarily passed out for a couple of minutes during the bath and woke up to one of their babies being unconscious. Both admitted to previously consuming alcohol.
The paramedics were called to the scene, and the child was sent to the Hospital Conde S. Januario, where he was pronounced dead.
The loss has devastated the mother who was also hospitalized. The other baby was unharmed. The couple left Macau after the incident but returned to the region yesterday to assist with the police’s ongoing investigation.
