Airport posts 7.9% passenger growth in first half of 2026

Macau International Airport handled approximately 3.9 million passenger movements in the first half of 2026, marking a 7.9% increase compared with the same period last year, according to data released by Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM).

Passenger traffic reached 3,896,692 movements between January and June, with March emerging as the busiest month of the half-year, recording 720,175 passengers.

The first quarter demonstrated robust performance, with January recording 680,282 passengers before rising to 716,963 in February and peaking in March.

However, the second quarter saw a gradual cooling in demand. April handled 666,416 passengers, followed by 587,778 in May – a marginal 0.45% year-on-year decrease – while June registered 525,078 passengers, down 9.3% from the same month last year.

In terms of flight operations, the airport recorded 28,957 aircraft movements in the first six months of 2026, representing a 2.19% increase year-on-year.

The first quarter saw relatively high operational frequency, with January logging 5,246 movements. February recorded a notable surge of 20.03% to 5,333 movements, while March reached a half-year peak of 5,373 movements, up 13.12% compared with the previous year.

The second quarter witnessed a progressive slowdown in flight activity. April handled 4,841 movements, a 3.46% increase over last year, while May dropped 8.64% year-on-year to 4,240 movements. June recorded the sharpest correction, with 3,964 movements, representing a 13.11% decrease compared with the same month in 2025.

Aircraft movements refer to takeoffs and landings at the airport, while passenger movements count both arriving and departing travelers. These metrics are standard industry indicators used to measure airport traffic volume and operational activity.

The data shows that the first half of 2026 delivered overall growth despite a softening trend in the second quarter.

CAM, the airport’s operator, publishes monthly traffic statistics on its official website, providing transparency on passenger volumes and flight movements for public reference and industry analysis.

The figures for the first half of 2026 position Macau International Airport for a full-year performance that will depend on traffic trends in the coming months, particularly during the peak summer and year-end holiday periods.
