Airport reports steady growth in air traffic in October

Air traffic at the Macau International Airport (MIA) continued to grow in October, with a passenger volume of 610,000 during the month, an increase of 20 percent year-on- year, MIA revealed yesterday.

The number of flights also rose by 16 percent year-on-year to 5,100. The Southeast Asian market continued to perform well in October, taking up 43 percent of the overall market, followed by the Chinese mainland and  Taiwan, accounting for 32 percent and 25 percent respectively.

From January to October, a total of 5.86 million passengers travelled through MIA, an increase of 6.5 percent compared with the same period last year.

The passenger volume on the Chinese mainland routes increased by 12 percent, whereas the Southeast Asia routes and China’s Taiwan route were less affected, with an increase of 8 percent and a decrease of 2.7 percent respectively.

In October this year, there were 30 airlines operating at the MIA, connecting Macau to 47 cities with about 1,100 weekly scheduled flights. MDT/Xinhua
