Albergue SCM presents ‘My Chinese Zodiac’ exhibition

The exhibition “My Chinese Zodiac” by Raquel Gralheiro will begin on March 26 at 6:30 p.m., at A2 Gallery of Albergue SCM as part of the ARTFEM Women Artists – 1st Macau International Biennial.

The exhibition presents a total of 24 works – 12 acrylic paintings on canvas and 12 mixed media boxes – representing the 12 Chinese zodiacs, according to a statement issued by its organizer, Albergue SCM.

Born in Viseu, Portugal in 1969, Gralheiro has exhibited since 1999 in individual and collective exhibitions, integrating several private collections in Portugal, Spain and Brazil and was awarded the 1st Prize Rui Alberto Espaço de Arte at Arte Erotica, in Gondomar.

In the words of Joana Páris Rito, who signs the artist’s foreword text: “the symbiosis between woman and animal is quite clear. The singularities of each particular being of the Chinese zodiac merge with the female character that is being portrayed, praising her condition, defining her gesture, her posture, the expression of her glance, the outline of her face.”

“Throughout her pictorial path, Pop Art’s strong colours, the naïf hearts, the bouquets of the Renaissance, the Tahitian patterns of Gauguin or the contemporary kaleidoscopes are a clear sign of the painter’s feminine glance over the world,” the foreward added.

“My Chinese Zodiac” will be open to the public until May 13.
