Arts | Interactive children’s show brings butterflies

Italian “Compagnia TPO” is set to present a total of six renditions of their children’s play, “Farfalle,” at the Macau Cultural Centre this weekend.
“Farfalle,” which means “Butterfly,” is an interactive adventure, merging dance, contemporary art and digital technologies. The adventure chronicles the life cycle of the butterfly, taking the audience through a projected setting of amazing botanical images and mysterious rainforest sounds.
The use of special sensors transforms the play into a truly interactive environment, allowing children to visit the inside of a cocoon, sit on an oversized flower, or run after digitally-rendered caterpillars on a specially-
built platform.
The cultural center describes the show as a “whirlpool of exciting colors and sounds,” adding that the interactive nature of the performance makes the group’s art “accessible to a vast international audience.”
Time Out New York wrote: “By performance’s end, butterflies won’t be the only creatures to have [under]gone a major transformation. Your tot will have also changed, from passive theatre goer to spontaneous performer.”
According to CCM, Compagnia TPO is considered a pioneer in the creation of children’s interactive theatre. The group visited Macau in 2012 and hosted “Saltbrush” – a piece which explored the beauty of Australian aboriginal art and nature.
The show will be presented six times over the weekend, with the first performance on Friday evening and the final one on Sunday afternoon. Tickets can be purchased at a cost of MOP180 from CCM’s box office and Macau Ticketing Network outlets.
