Painter Júlio Pomar

An exhibition showcasing works by the renowned Portuguese master Júlio Pomar is set to open today at 6.30 p.m. at the Tap Seac Gallery.
Jointly organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau and Albergue SCM, the exhibition showcases the different phases of Pomar’s artistic career. Thirty-one works by the artist and his contemporaries will be displayed, including famous oil paintings and prints.  This will allow the audience to better understand the painter’s work and life, as well as to appreciate and better understand his artistic approach, along with the feelings and unique vision behind each piece of art. The exhibition will be open to the public from September 15 to October 29.
Another exhibition highlighting the work of Julio Pomar will be inaugurated at the patio of the Albergue SCM on Friday at 6.30 p.m. This exhibition includes over 40 works, 34 of which are by Pomar. The erotic phase, particularly the works featured in “Le Bal chez le Duc” (“the Ball at the Duke’s Residence”) is exhibited here for the first time. The exhibition also depicts a comprehensive sample of his extensive graphic work, especially the 8 lithographs of all illustrations the artist made for the Portuguese Edition of the work of Lewis Carroll, “The Hunting of the Snark.” The exhibition “The Journey of a Master: Júlio Pomar & Friends” will be open until January 15.
Born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1926, Júlio Pomar is one of the greatest Portuguese artists of the twentieth century. His work features a wide variety of styles, which include design, printmaking, sculpture, illustrations, ceramics, tapestries, theatre design, as well as essays and poetry about painting.
Both exhibitions have free admission.
