August GGR averages MOP733 million in first nine days

Gross gaming revenue (GGR) reached an estimated MOP6.6 billion in the first nine days of August, with daily revenue averaging MOP733 million, according to investment bank reports.
The daily average was about 12% higher than July’s average and up 3% year over year, signaling a modest recovery in gaming activity following weaker performance in July.
Citi said the improvement was encouraging, attributing the stronger performance partly to the release of pent-up demand and several major concerts held in Macau this month. The bank maintained its forecast for August GGR at MOP23.5 billion, representing a 6% year-over-year increase.
Jefferies also estimated that GGR rose 3% year over year during the first nine days of August, with daily revenue 12% above July’s level. The bank noted that the gaming market had been relatively subdued during the World Cup period but has since improved.
Jefferies said that given the high comparison base from August last year, low- to mid-single-digit growth this month would still represent a positive outcome.
The institutions expect upcoming concerts and other major events in the city to provide further support for gaming revenue through the remainder of August. LV
