August hotel guests total 1.31 million amid holidays

The number of guests of hotel establishments in August leapt by 234.7% year-on-year to 1.31 million guests. Those from mainland China (968,000), Hong Kong (206,000) and Taiwan (27,000) jumped by 267.3%, 1,200.7% and 1,231.5% respectively.

Data from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) shows that in the first eight months of 2023, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms of hotel establishments went up by 43.4 percentage points year-on-year to 80.9%.

The number of guests soared by 161.2% year-on-year to 8,657,000, while their average length of stay decreased by 0.2 night to 1.7 nights.

The total number of available guest rooms grew by 20% to 45,000.

The hotel sector is positive that casino resorts in the Cotai area are poised to achieve full occupancy during the upcoming Golden Week.

Also, Macau saw 130,000 visitors arriving on package tours in August.

In the first eight months of 2023, the number of visitors arriving on package tours totaled 607,000, and that of Macau residents purchasing outbound services through travel agencies rocketed by 1,001.3% year-on-year to 259,000.

Visitors totaled 3.22 million in August, a rise of 16.7% month-on-month, as tourists flocked to the region amid summer holidays. Staff Reporter
