Authorities unveil full event schedule for 15th National Games

Authorities have disclosed the detailed schedule for the 15th National Games of China, which will take place from November 9 to 21 across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau. During a plenary meeting of the Sports Council held at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion on Tuesday, officials outlined the arrangements for Macau’s hosted events.

According to the available schedule, the 5×5 basketball (U18 men’s) tournament will run from November 10 to 18 at Studio City Event Center and Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion. The 3×3 basketball competition, set for November 12 to 15, will take place at Wynn Palace. Table tennis matches are scheduled for November 7 to 20 at the Galaxy Arena, while women’s volleyball will be held from November 7 to 19 at the Venetian Arena and East Asian Games Dome.

The karate mass event is scheduled for November 6 to 8 at the Macau Forum. Additionally, the road cycling event will span across the three Greater Bay Area (GBA) regions, with Macau’s segment crossing the Macau Bridge.

Luís Gomes, director of the Sports Bureau (ID), announced, “We [Macau] will compete in 19 out of 34 elite events, a significant increase from previous years.” The list of sports includes swimming, athletics, martial arts, taekwondo, tennis, badminton, basketball, boxing, canoeing, cycling, fencing, football, golf, judo, shooting, table tennis, triathlon, volleyball, and handball.

Macau will also participate in 12 out of 23 mass-participation events such as dragon boat racing, chess, bowling, and lion dance, marking its first formal entry into non-Olympic categories.

Addressing public concerns about athlete eligibility, Gomes clarified, “Elite events adhere strictly to Olympic standards, while mass events welcome professional athletes from all regions. Our delegation will prioritize athletes with preparedness, foundational skills, and competitiveness.” Final team selections are ongoing in coordination with local sports associations.

The National Games will coincide with the Macau Grand Prix, but organizers assured during the meeting that planning has been carefully coordinated to avoid scheduling conflicts.

For example, Cotai-based events will take place during race days, while competitions on the Macau Peninsula will be staggered.
