BBAM re-elects Keith Buckley as chairman

Keith Buckley

The British Business Association of Macao (BBAM) has re-elected Keith Buckley to the position of chairman at its Annual General Meeting held earlier this week.

A founding member of BBAM, Buckley is currently the executive project director for Hsin Chong Engineering (Macau) Limited (HCEM). Since 2003, he has been responsible for the construction management of Sands Macao, The Venetian Macao, Four Seasons Resort, Sands Cotai Central and The Parisian Macao.

According to a statement from BBAM, at the meeting, Buckley highlighted the association members’ continuing enthusiasm to promote and represent British trade interests in Macau “in sharing good practice, innovation, fresh insights and new opportunities.”

Prior to coming to Macau, Keith spent more than 40 years working internationally on civil engineering infrastructure and building projects.

Buckley has also been involved in the Lighthouse Club Macau, a locally registered construction charity that provides financial assistance to the families of workers involved in fatal construction-related accidents.

Construction-related accidents are not uncommon in Macau. In a 2015 interview with the Times, Buckley said they were the result of “a high level of constructions activity and a relatively unskilled workforce.”

The Annual General Meeting also saw the appointment of Saj Fernando, a senior design manager, to BBAM’s Management Committee.

Saj takes his place alongside Founder Committee Members:  Eileen Stow (co-vice chairman), Virgil Chan, Andrew Evans (treasurer) and Jill Rigg. More recent appointees and continuing in their roles are Kit Thompson (co-vice chairman), Suzanne Watkinson, and Anthony Williams.
