The Gongbei border gate saw a total of 1.2 million crossings during the three-day New Year Holiday, according to a report by Macao Daily News. On the first and second days, 408,000 and 410,000 crossings were registered respectively, with both figures being substantially higher compared to an average day. The Authority notified passengers about the potential heavy human traffic flow at the Gongbei border gate before the Chinese New Year.

Four smugglers arrested on December 30

The Macao Customs Authority arrested four smugglers – two men and two women – on the evening of December 30, according to a statement released by the Authority. One of the arrested men was the responsible for organising the smuggling operations, while the others assisted. The two women entered Macau’s border with the assistance of the two men. One of the women was forwarded to the Public Security Police Force. The Customs Authority suspect that the second woman might be involved in human trafficking activities and forwarded her to the Judiciary Police for further investigation. All four suspects are mainland residents, and they have all been forwarded to the related government departments.
