The distribution of the 2017 Wealth Partaking Scheme, also known as the “handout,” was completed on Friday. In the course of the implementation, more than 278,000 people received the cash premium by means of bank transfer, according to the Financial Services Bureau, accounting for MOP2.44 billion. Meanwhile, around 409,000 crossed cheques were mailed, accounting for MOP3.54 billion, and about two-thirds of these have already been honored. The Service Center for the Civil and Municipal Affairs Bureau noted that it has handled more than 16,500 enquiries this year relating to the scheme, 60 percent of which were personal visits. Another 39 percent of enquiries were resolved over the telephone.

IACM to conduct road resurface works

The Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) says it has begun resurfacing works on the flyover of the Outer Harbor Ferry Terminal and the connecting roadways. According to a statement from the bureau, the works mainly include the resurfacing of damaged and uneven roadways with asphalt, replacing the catchpit and square manhole covers and leveling them at the same height as the road surface, as well as repairing the joints and railings in order to maintain road safety. The work will be carried out during a period of about 40 working days – or eight weeks – during which time control traffic measures will be implemented. The bureau asks that drivers pay attention to the situation of the roads and comply with the provisional traffic signs and instructions installed on roads.

New PSP deputy commissioner

The Public Security Police Force (PSP) has announced that former Assistant Commissioner Lao Wan Seong assumed the office of deputy commissioner on Friday, following an inauguration ceremony held at the PSP headquarters. Lao has previously served as division heads of the police school, the resource management department and the operations department. Moreover, she held senior posts in the operations department and as an advisor to the Office of the Secretary for Security. According to a PSP statement, Lao has been promoted and awarded commendations of several occasions for her outstanding work performance, professional knowledge and leadership skills. Through her career, Lao has “achieved remarkable results,” the PSP said.
