Briefs | Bus breaks sharply, three mildly injured

Yesterday, an incident at Av. do Alm. Lacerda injured three passengers onboard a public bus. The bus braked sharply in order to avoid crashing into a motorbike which was in front of the bus and had come to a sudden stop. The driver passed blood alcohol tests. The three people who were injured were all local residents. The male injured passenger (aged in his 70s) sustained an injury to the head, with the other two sustaining injuries to the waist and left shoulder respectively.

Ella Lei asks for laws on Cotai border relocation

Yesterday, lawmaker Ella Lei made an inquiry in writing to the government, asking for legislation concerning the Cotai Frontier Post. Lei considers the relocation of the port to Hengqin conveys the establishment of a Macau port in the city of Zhuhai. Such a measure should be coordinated with corresponding laws, Lei says. She proposes that the local government establish laws regarding the relocation. The lawmaker also wants the Macau SAR government to reveal legislative progress on the matter, and wonders whether the government can complete legislation around the same time as the relocation is finished.

Nearly 6,000 newly incorporated companies in 2018

Macau’s newly incorporated companies totalled 5,953 in 2018, up by 776 year-on-year, and the number of companies in dissolution was 813, the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) announced on Friday. The latest DSEC report indicated that in 2018, newly incorporated companies’ registered capital declined by 87.9 percent to MOP986 million, due to a decrease in capital in financial services. The registered capital of companies in dissolution totaled MOP453 million. Analyzed by size of registered capital, there were 4,562 new companies (76.6 percent of the total) with registered capital under MOP50,000 in 2018. Meanwhile, 111 new companies were registered with capital of MOP1 million or over. At the end of 2018, the total number of registered companies in Macau increased by 5,141 year-on-year to 66,186.
