Briefs | Inflation for 2014 at 6 percent

The inflation rate for 2014 stood at 6.05 percent, according to information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC). Inflation was mainly fuelled by higher rentals and rising charges for eating out, according to the official statistics. Throughout 2014, a significant increase was observed in the price index for the categories of Housing & Fuels (+11.93 pct) and Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages (+6.11 pct), while the price index for Communication decreased by 0.31%.

One injured in Galaxy construction accident

A mainland worker has fractured his leg after he fell 7 to 8 meters from a height at the Galaxy phase 2 construction site. Information suggested that the 40-year-old was decorating the outside wall of the building when the accident occured. He was sent to the Kiang Wu Hospital and remained conscious throughout. A fire broke out a week ago at the same construction site. Black smoke was visible coming from the top of the building under construction. Around 6,000 workers were evacuated and nobody was injured.
