Briefs | New DSAJ deputy director appointed

Lou Soi Cheong has been appointed as the new deputy director of the Legal Affairs Bureau (DSAJ). Lou holds a bachelor’s degree in law from National Chengchi University. He has been working in the public service since 1993. Lou served as a senior technician in the legal field of the government’s legal translation office and as director of the Commercial Registry Office. Lou has been the acting deputy director of DSAJ since June 1. With Lou’s formal appointment, the DSAJ now has three deputy directors.

More students enrolled in new year

The number of new students and teaching staff have increased, according to statistics from the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ). A total of 82,683 students have enrolled in the new school year, representing a 2.6% increase from 80,556 students in the previous school year. There are 19,360 kindergarten students, 34,527 primary school students and 27,960 secondary school students, representing 2.7%, 3.9% and 1.1% growth respectively. The total number of teaching staff at the beginning of the school year is expected to be 8,029, an increase of 3.6% compared to 7,751 in the previous school year. The number of kindergarten teachers, primary school teachers and secondary school teachers increased 4.2%, 6% and 1.5% respectively.
