Briefs | Tam participates in ASEAN-China culture meeting

The Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Alexis Tam, participated yesterday in the Meeting of Ministers of Culture of the ASEAN–China, the Office of the Secretary informed in a statement. According to the same note, Tam was part of an official delegation representing the People’s Republic of China (PRC), by invitation of the Ministry of Culture, which attended the event held at Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. Tam will take the opportunity during two meetings of the event to present the social, cultural, tourism and educational developments of Macau, the statement read. The official delegation of the PRC, led by the Deputy Minister of Culture Ding Wei, will return to the country on Friday.

Korean visitors soared by 40.3 percent in July

Information from the Statistic and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitors incoming from the Republic of Korea soared by 40.3 percent in a year-on-year comparison for the month of  July, representing in turn a 11.5 percent increase for the first seven months of 2016.  During the summer holidays in July, a total of 2,794,855 tourist arrivals were recorded, a number mostly dominated by visitors from Mainland China (1,839,397). Long-haul visitors from Australia (6,736) and from the United Kingdom (5,153) also increased year-on-year, whereas the number of those travelling from the United States (15,467) and from Canada (4,942) decreased. Still, long-haul visitors from the aforementioned countires registered a year-on-year increase with respect to the first seven months of 2016.  The number of visitors from Hong Kong increased by 10.5 percent in the last month. Those travelling from Taiwan (103, 2970) also represent a 5.5 percent  jump in July.  Tourists in July grew 18.5 percent month-on-month and 5.5 y-o-y.

St. Dominic’s postcard on sale today

Macao Post will issue a Postage Paid Postcard today. St. Dominic’s Church was established in 1587, located at St. Dominic’s Square.  This Postage Paid Postcard priced at MOP10 each can be sent to every corner of the world without stamp.
