Chief Executive (CE) Sam Hou Fai expressed deep sorrow at the death of former Vice-Premier Liu Yandong and, on behalf of the Macau SAR, extended condolences to her family. Liu, a former Politburo member and CPPCC vice-chairwoman, died in Beijing on the afternoon of October 28. Sam praised her leadership in education, science, health care, and women’s and children’s affairs, as well as her support for Macau’s development. Liu visited Macau in 2006 and 2009 as deputy leader of the Central Coordination Group for Hong Kong and Macau Affairs. The CE noted that residents will remember her guidance and enduring concern for their well-being.
