The Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEDJ) has announced the suspension of classes at all stages of non-tertiary education tomorrow, with higher education institutions advised to follow relevant regulations.
This comes after the Meteorological and Geophysics Bureau (SMG) issued a special warning on intensifying weather conditions forecast for the middle of the week.
According to the bureau, the trough of low pressure affecting the northern part of Guangdong is moving southwards and is expected to affect the coast of Guangdong during the week.
The bureau reminds schools to ensure that the school premises are open and to arrange staff to take care of students who have returned to the school until the situation is suitable for them to return home safely.
“Schools should take various defensive measures in advance, including pre-installing waterproof gates, inspecting buildings and school facilities, relocating equipment and paying attention to the power system conditions,” the bureau said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Transport Bureau calls on all public and private car park management companies to conduct a comprehensive review of the situation in car parks and take preventive measures to prevent flooding. It also calls on car owners and drivers to avoid parking in negative-level car parks or low-lying areas.
The weather in Macau is expected to become unstable, with heavy showers and thunderstorms from today to Saturday. As the weather will be unstable for several days, the public is advised to pay close attention to the latest weather information, take precautions against flooding and make travel plans in advance.
