Consumption campaign receives positive feedback from senior citizens

The Macau Consumer Grand Prix campaign kicked off yesterday, receiving positive feedback from senior citizens, with many opting to use it for daily food purchases.
The consumption campaign offers nearly MOP500 million in incentives, with a key feature being the half-price instant discount of MOP500 for senior cardholders and holders of “Care Cards” for people with disabilities, allowing residents to pay only 50% of eligible transaction amounts at participating merchants.
“I’m happy to receive this kind of support from the government. Daily necessities have really gone up compared to before, so programs like this alleviate, at least, some of our burden. Rising prices make it hard for seniors to get by on a fixed income,” a 67-year-old resident told the Times.
“I hope these subsidies continue because supporting us seniors also means supporting our neighborhood stores,” she added.
Another senior citizen noted that receiving the discount was convenient this time, as most seniors have already exchanged their old cards for new senior citizen cards, which automatically become eligible for the incentive.
“I hope the government will continue this program and even expand it. Many seniors are struggling, and additional support would be a real relief,” said another resident to the Times.
“With support like this, the first thing that comes to our minds is getting fresh produce and covering basic needs,” the elderly added.
The program runs from September 1 to November 30, covering 13 weeks.
Residents with verified electronic wallets can draw up to three digital vouchers per week for purchases of MOP 50 or more at eligible stores.
Voucher values range from MOP10 to MOP200 and must be redeemed during the following weekend at over 20,000 merchants, with single-transaction redemption requiring a purchase of three times the voucher value. Weekly unused vouchers expire each Monday. Times Reporter
