The Adelson Family Foundation presented a ceremonial cheque of more than USD1.9 million (approximately MOP15.4 million) yesterday to the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) to assist its recovery efforts after Typhoon Hato and subsequent storms that caused major damage to its new campus in August and September.
Executives from Las Vegas Sands Corp. and Sands China Ltd. presented the ceremonial cheque to Fr. Peter Stilwell, rector of USJ, at the university’s new campus.
The basement level of the university’s new Green Campus on Ilha Verde was flooded after the storm last year, submerging nearly all its equipment – both installed and in storage – under 3 metres of water. Five days of pumping was required to drain the basement.
Adelson Family Foundation donation will go towards addressing four critical areas of need at the university including the library, server room, audio-visual studio and its fitness room and recreational corner.
