Council strengthens GBA cooperation with release of joint consumer report

Taking into account what they said to be an accelerated development of integrated consumption occurring in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA), the Consumer Council (CC) has joined the activities related to World Consumer Rights Day (March 15) in Zhuhai.

According to the CC, the purpose is to jointly create, through cooperation, an environment of honest, high-quality consumption in the GBA.

In light of World Consumer Rights Day, consumer organizations from cities in the GBA carried out several outreach and educational activities around China’s annual theme for protecting consumer rights, titled “Improving the Quality of Consumption.”

The CC took part in several activities co-organized by Zhuhai City Consumer Rights and the Hengqin Consumer Association of the Guangdong-Macau Cooperation Zone.

The activities aimed to promote Certified Stores in the three locations, as well as share results achieved so far in mutual promotion and recognition of Certified Stores.

Chairperson of the CC, Leong Pek San, noted in a speech that, “To align with the country’s 15th Five-Year Plan and accelerate the integrated development of the GBA, the CC will continue to deepen cooperation with consumer organizations in the GBA, accelerating the interconnection of rules and mechanisms for protecting consumer rights in that region and, above all, promoting cross-border cooperation in the mutual promotion and recognition of Certified Stores, so as to build an environment of honesty and quality consumption and bring greater protection and confidence to consumers.”

Start with electric toothbrushes

One of the practical measures taken in this regard was the launch of joint product reports between Macau and Hengqin.

In the first of these reports, Macau and Hengqin jointly released a comparative test report of 12 electric toothbrushes.

The samples were acquired online and offline, from 12 brands, priced between approximately MOP150 and MOP1,400.

The test evaluated eight items most relevant to consumers regarding the use of electric toothbrushes, considering their features.

According to the test results, all 12 samples met the corresponding requirements for brush head temperature resistance, bristle bend recovery rate, replaceable brush head sturdiness, on/off button lifespan, noise, and water resistance.

On the other hand, battery life ranged from 68 to 536 minutes across the 12 samples. Regarding vibration frequency evaluation, the tested samples also showed differing performance.
