At MGM, we understand that is important to support equal opportunities and diversity in our workforce, knowing that a diverse team is a stronger team. To date, we have hired 49 employees with different disabilities and strive to create a supportive working environment for them.

Seminar on “Effective communication with persons with disabilities towards a barrier-free environment”

On March 25, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and MGM co-organized a seminar entitled “Effective Communication with Persons with Disabilities Towards a Barrier-Free Environment” was held at MGM COTAI and attended by more than 150 participants. It brought together speakers and leaders of social enterprises to share their personal experience and their contribution to the journey of building a more inclusive and fair society for everyone.

Speaking at the launch ceremony and seminar, Mr. Bowie said this project is only “a start of a marathon” and it has a deeper purpose to raise awareness and create engagement in a wider society. “Today, it is our hope we all learn to find some compassion and understanding. And most importantly, overcome our natural barriers and prejudices. As we develop to be a leader in all facets of tourism, we understand we need to be welcoming and inclusive.”

Launch of first e-learning program for sign language

The event also saw the launch of “Power in Our Hands” community e-learning program of Macao sign language in collaboration with Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Macau Deaf Association. It pioneers in offering the first community outreach online sign language lessons covering elementary knowledge of sign language, daily conservations, tourism vocabulary such as sightseeing in Macau, hospitality and city facilities. Locals are welcome to join the e-learning program for free, available in 3 languages, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and English through this link at http://industry.macaotourism.gov.mo. This also supports the scheme of Macau SAR Government’s initiative in optimizing the accessibility of the city. Leading from within.

MGM has always been supportive in building an access-free environment in terms of both facilities provided in the property, and service for people with special needs. Our Hotel rooms offers barrier-free access and wheelchairs that are readily available.

In addition, we also provide training opportunities for the staff with the dedication to enhance service quality for people with special needs. This, together with many initiatives led by Macau Government will contribute towards building a world class, access-friendly Macau, for both locals and visitors.
