CRIME | Man nabbed for deliberately using counterfeit credit cards

Police authorities arrested a Malaysian man for illegally using credit cards in the territory on July 4. It was reported that the 25-year-old suspect was employed by an overseas-
based criminal syndicate, which required him to embark on a spending spree upon arrival in the city using 12 counterfeit credit cards.
Intercepted by the Judiciary Police (PJ) officers at the airport in the evening, the suspect, surnamed Yiek and self-titled as unemployed, successfully swindled MOP36,000 out of a local travel agency in a transaction over a flight booking. In spite of this, his attempts to cheat some other luxury stores on the Cotai strip were subsequently in vain. His erratic behavior prompted the attention of local security forces. According to the PJ spokesperson, the man would receive eight percent of a successful transaction as remuneration each time.
In a separate case, a female croupier faces prosecution after she was caught embezzling chips worth a total of HKD50,000 at her workplace last Friday, according to the Judiciary Police.
The debt-ridden suspect, surnamed Chui and aged 40, was said to be operating at a gaming table inside a casino located in Taipa when the crime took place, which was being recorded by the casino’s surveillance.
Despite the number of chips seized on the spot, the police officers also discovered another four chips worth HKD40,000 in her locker.  The suspect, however, denied the theft, professing that her friends were just returning what they had owed her.
