The Labour Affairs Bureau unveiled a new exhibition on vocational safety and health at its training center yesterday. The exhibition aims to raise public awareness of the importance of adopting safety measures at workplaces through the use of interactive displays.
The exhibition, located on the second floor of an industrial building near the Horta e Costa district, highlights a total of 13 feature areas, with various equipment and apparatuses used to prevent industrial accidents on display.
Representatives from different labor unions, commercial chambers and organizations were also present at yesterday’s exhibition opening to learn more about workplace safety through the exhibits.
The president of the bureau, Wong Chi Hong, admitted that some of the large-scale, final-stage construction projects running on the Cotai Strip have posed challenges to the safety of workers who are hurrying to complete them. However, he believed that the safety of construction workers could be heightened through adequate protective measures in the workplace.
“Many people think that industrial accidents are inevitable at such environmentally complicated construction sites, but they are artificial environments, which can be manipulated and changed by us,” said Wong, adding that the increased number of industrial accidents over the past four months has concerned the authorities.
The bureau held a talk with sector representatives following the exhibition tour.
