Email scam affects CTM

The name of local telecommunications company CTM is being used in a fraudulent email. CTM issued a statement yesterday alerting the public to an email which has the subject “1 New Message” and states that a webmail account needs to be upgraded within 24 hours to avoid deactivation. It also comes with a hyperlink that must be clicked for the full message to be seen.

The company urged receivers of this email to ignore and delete it immediately. The company stated that it did not send the email message.

According to the statement issued by CTM, the company has taken immediate actions to identify and block the emails which were sent from the same IP address.

CTM reminds customers to refrain from disclosing any personal information through the telephone or Internet, and to avoid clicking on hyperlinks included in any suspicious emails to browse unknown websites.

CTM further added that the company would not normally request that customers provide personal information such as their ID number, user ID, password and account number over the telephone or through email. CTM urged customers to remain alert for deceptive emails and phone calls, adding that any suspicious emails should be ignored and deleted immediately.
