Employee turnover rate in banks drops

At the end of the third quarter of 2016, there were some 28 banks operating in Macau, according to information released by the Statistics and Census Service (DESC). Compared with the same point in 2015, the number of full-time employees increased by 144 to 6,072, with 1,672 directors and managers and 2,041 clerks (including 784 bank tellers).

In the third quarter, the banking sector hired 265 new employees with the employee recruitment rate (4.4 percent) and the employee turnover rate (3.4 percent) falling by 3.9 and 2.3 percentage points respectively year-on-year. The number of new recruits indicates that the employee population of the banking sector was relatively stable in this quarter, according to a statement from DSEC.

Meanwhile, job vacancies stood at 240 at the end of the third quarter, similar to a year ago. There were 143 vacancies for clerks and 52 for bank tellers.

In September 2016, average earnings (excluding bonuses) of full-time employees amounted to MOP25,650, up by 3 percent year-on-year. Average earnings of bank tellers increased by 5.3 percent to MOP15,470.
