Five TNR arrested over online romance scam

The Judiciary Police (PJ) have arrested five Filipino female non-resident workers suspected of helping to receive and withdraw funds from an online romance scam. The suspects, aged between 38 and 49, include three domestic helpers, a cleaner, and a waitress. Authorities suspect they used their bank accounts to receive a total of MOP51,000 in proceeds of fraud, which were then split into smaller amounts and withdrawn from ATMs. According to PJ, several male residents reported that they had been lured into transferring several sums to someone they met online, under the pretense of shipping a luxury watch, cash, fuel taxes, and customs fines. The alleged victims lost contact with the alleged scammers after paying the sums.
