Gaming-related revenues down one-third in 2015

Inside The Macao Gaming Show 2015

Total revenues for enterprises involvedin gaming activities amounted to MOP 233.2 billion in 2015, down by 34.1 percent year-on-year, according to new information released by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) as part of the Gaming Sector Survey 2015 results.
The bureau wrote in a statement that gaming revenues  decreased by 34.3 percent year-
on-year to MOP231.58 billion while receipts from food & beverage and currency exchange dropped by 10.6 percent and 24.6 percent respectively. Interest receipts declined 32.5 percent to MOP278 million.
Meanwhile, total expenditure amounted to MOP101.87 billion, down by 32.5 percent year-on-year.
Purchase of goods, commission paid & customer rebate accounted for almost MOP57 million, substantially down by 45.1 percent year-on-year. Operating expenses fell by 13.5 percent to MOP21.24 billion. Within this figure, expenditure on complementary goods & services (such as hotel accommodation and food & beverage) provided to customers totaled MOP9.81 billion (down 14.1 percent). The expenditure on marketing & publicity was MOP3.91 billion (down 27.6 percent).
At the same time, employee compensation increased by 5.1 percent to MOP19.93 billion despite a 2.7 percent drop in the total number of full-time employees (56,217).
In addition, non-operating expenses (including depreciation and interest paid) totaled to MOP3.7 billion, up by 4.6 percent year-on-year.
Gross Value Added, which measures the sectoral contribution to the economy, fell by 31.3 percent year-on-year to MOP154.74 billion. Gross Surplus of the gaming sector decreased by 34.6 percent to MOP134.8 billion. The Gross Surplus Ratio dropped slightly by 0.4 percentage points to 57.9 percent.
Meanwhile Gross Fixed Capital Formation of the sector increased by 4 percent year-
on-year to MOP2.75 billion, which DSEC attributes to an increase in the acquisition of machinery and other related equipment.
