The Gongbei Customs authority has announced that 12,098 smuggling cases were investigated last year, an increase of 1.56 percent year-on-year. The amount involved in the cases increased by nearly 20 percent to RMB3.162 billion.
Gongbei Customs also cracked down on 17 large-scale smuggling rings. 647 people were brought in under compulsory measures, and the bureau arrested 69 suspects.
According to Gongbei Customs, in 2018 Macau and Zhuhai joined hands for cross-border law enforcement actions. Gongbei Customs, the Zhuhai police department, the Macau Judiciary Police and the Macau customs authority jointly carried out cross- border actions. During this cooperative exercise, the four departments seized 54 kilograms of drugs, which were shipped using postal parcels. thirteen smuggled guns were also seized while the weapons were being shipped from Macau to mainland China.
