Gov’t considers consumption campaign to stimulate ZAPE economy

The Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT) has announced plans to introduce a consumption grand prize campaign for visitors to ZAPE, which it aims to launch in the fourth quarter of this year.
According to DSEDT, the initiative includes a partnership between the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and local electronic payment platforms to promote spending in ZAPE alongside concurrent activities.
Additionally, authorities will partner with major online travel platforms in the mainland and abroad to provide discounted booking services for hotels and travel products in the area.
DSEDT unveiled the plan in response to a written inquiry from lawmaker Ngan Iek Hang regarding the development planning and support measures for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in ZAPE, following the closure of satellite casinos.
In its written reply, DSEDT emphasized its efforts to strengthen communication and cooperation with the chamber of commerce in the area, actively research and implement measures to attract visitors, optimize the business environment, and assist community businesses in their transformation.
Starting June 10, DSEDT began visiting ZAPE to assess the situation and needs of local businesses, gather their feedback, and introduce various policy measures supporting SMEs.
Among these efforts, DSEDT highlighted a plan to collaborate with a mainland ticketing platform to offer consumption discounts to visitors purchasing concert tickets in Macau. This initiative encourages community spending and extends visitors’ stay and leisure time in Macau’s neighborhoods.
In response to Ngan’s inquiry about the urban planning and construction plan for ZAPE, the Land and Urban Construction Bureau said it will review detailed plans and input from relevant public entities. The goal is to improve the planning process and execution, ultimately helping diversify Macau’s economy.
