See Lei speaking yesterday to the press

The 65th Macau Grand Prix is set to be held from November 15 to 18, featuring a series of activities for residents prior to the official race. At a press conference held yesterday, the Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee informed that the “Guia Circuit Fun Run” will be opened to 2,000 people on November 11.

According to the organizing committee, the 6.2km run must be finished within an hour and 15 minutes.

“We will not fully block the circuit, we will not use so many driving lanes […] we have done our research regarding how much time we need until to open the road to the public,” said See Lei, head of the Macao Grand Prix and Major Sporting Events Department.

Lei told the press that the budget for this year’s event remains at MOP200 million.

Lei also said that the applications for this year’s event are still open, with the finalized details to be announced in another press conference in October.

“We will then tell you which team and riders will participate in this year’s race. Currently, we don’t have a list of the applicants,” she said.

When asked whether there is an allotted budget to ensure safety, recalling the tragic accident that occurred last year, Lei replied, “Currently, I can’t give you a ratio regarding the safety budget. Safety is an important part; it is a priority when we organize the race.”

“This year, we don’t have any race[s] canceled,” Lei added.

Other activities include a creative “65” racing-themed photo and “Grand Prix;” a themed short video collection campaign; as well as a “Grand Prix Family Carnival” at Tap Seac Square on November 3 to 4.

Members of the public may enter the short video competition from September 3, with entries to be submitted to the organizers in the requested format by October 3. The organizers will upload the entries that best illustrate the themes of the event to the Macau Grand Prix and Macao Sports Events websites. Across social platforms, the ten entries which garner the most “likes” or votes during the month of October will win paddock access passes and tickets to this year’s Grand Prix, as well as other souvenirs.

The “65th Macau Grand Prix Opening Ceremony and Auto Show”, held from November 10 to 11, will showcase the participating Macau GT Cup – FIA GT World Cup and Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix racing vehicles at the Tap Seac Square.  LV
