Nine new HIV infections recorded in 1st half-year

Macau has recorded nine new cases of HIV infection in the first six months of this year. All of the patients are local residents. According to the Fight Against AIDS Committee, sexual contact still remains the main cause of AIDS transmission in the territory. At the Committee’s plenary meeting last Friday, the Health Bureau also promoted safe sex among different groups, including adolescents and sex workers. The bureau has focused work plans on routinizing HIV detection in local medical institutions, holding community forums on AIDS and surveying adolescents’ recognition, attitudes and behavior toward the disease.
