A full smoking ban took effect in mass-market gaming floors on October 6, but lawmakers have urged the government to ensure that casino operators are fully complying with the new rules. Lawmaker Kwan Tsui Hang hinted that, besides Melco Crown Entertainment – which was accused by unions of breaching the full smoking ban – another operator is not fully complying with the rules. She did not disclose which concessionaire she was referring to.
Lawmaker Ng Kuok Cheong went even further to say that operators not complying with the full smoking ban should see their concessions revoked after their contracts expire.
The director of the Health Bureau (SSM), Lei Chin Ion, told lawmakers that between October 6 and November 20 this year, SSM conducted a total of 105 inspections of casinos and found 83 people breaching the law. CP
