A local middle-aged man lost HKD2.6 million after falling victim to a suspected online stock investment scam, the Judiciary Police (PJ) reported. The victim joined a social media chat group in May and was persuaded to transfer funds into a trading account via a designated link. The account initially showed HKD10 million in profits, but when he attempted to withdraw funds, he was asked to pay HKD1 million. After refusal, contact was cut. Another local youth reported losing HKD40,000 in a similar scam.
