Four residents lose MOP245,000 in fake Taobao scam

The Judiciary Police (PJ) said four Macau residents fell victim to fraudsters posing as Taobao customer service staff between August 18 and 19, with combined losses of about MOP245,000. Victims received calls claiming their “payment security plan” had expired and would incur fees if not canceled. Believing the story, they followed instructions via links and screen-sharing to provide banking and credit card details. Funds were later siphoned from their accounts and credit cards, prompting them to file reports with PJ.
