Macao Basic Law gallery reopens with focus on youth patriotic education

The Macao Basic Law Commemorative Gallery officially reopened on Sunday following a comprehensive renovation aimed at enhancing its role in patriotic and legal education.

The ceremony was officiated by Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai, alongside mainland and local officials including Zheng Xincong, Liu Xianfa, Yu Changjiang, and Chui Sai Cheong.

In his speech, Secretary for Administration and Justice André Cheong emphasized the gallery’s renewed mission.

“With the support of all parties, we have not only optimized the gallery, but established it as a legal publicity base for patriotic education for young people.”

He added that the new exhibition incorporates multimedia tools to engage students and promote understanding of the Constitution and the Basic Law.

Cheong also underlined the government’s continued commitment to working with schools and associations to foster a strong national identity among Macau’s youth and uphold the ‘One country, two systems’ principle for future generations.

To mark the reopening, a special lecture was held for 40 secondary school students, featuring Professor Lok Wai Kin, who introduced key concepts of the Constitution and the Basic Law.

The gallery, first opened in 2013, now integrates modern displays and new themes aimed at deepening civic awareness. Admission is free and open to all residents.
