FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem raised the possibility of Macau hosting an “FIA Training Center” in the future.
“Training is part of our spinal cord. We do not go forward without it,” Ben Sulayem said during a recent group interview, noting the FIA’s interest in focusing on the training of not only racers but also stewards, race directors, and people in many other roles.
“I believe a center for training in certain regions is very important for us because it’s also about developing capable people across different parts of the world. So, I support a hub here, or a training center in Macau, and the FIA will support that. Because looking at the new equipment here and the way Macau is adapting to the new FIA developments, we are very proud,” he said, adding that this training center could be related to karting racing.
“People look at karting, and sometimes they do not appreciate it, or they don’t see where the grassroots level can take you. You have two very simple ways to develop champions. You have circuit racing or off-road racing, which is rallying, and when it comes to grassroots motorsport, these pathways come from karting or from ‘Cross Cars.’ These are the only two options. So, we also have to make sure we are aligned and working together in this area.”
