Melco’s management team lead volunteering efforts to benefit community

Melco Resorts and Entertainment endeavors to make its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs sustainable by integrating social and community issues into its business strategy.

Volunteering to benefit the community is a cornerstone of Melco’s CSR strategy, with the company strongly supporting, encouraging and facilitating such events for employees and their family members to engage in.

During the first six months of this year, 650 Melco employees have devoted their time to serve the community, spending more than 1,400 hours participating in 40 varied events to benefit beneficiaries, community groups and non-governmental organizations. During these events, Melco’s senior executives and management team members have been the leaders among employees from all departments.

In April, a group of 16 volunteers from Melco’s corporate office and their children devoted an afternoon to cats and dogs at Anima – Society for the Protection of Animals in Macau, spending time with them, cleaning kennels and taking dogs for walks.

Mr. Geoff Andres, Property President of Studio City, was among the participants of the Melco volunteer team. “It’s great that the company arranges a wide variety of events for colleagues to volunteer their time. The animal shelter visit was meaningful and a refreshing experience. It led us to better understand the needs of these shelter animals, and the benefits of animal adoption. It was a great experience for the children who took part, too,” he commented.

Another event co-organized with Pou Tai Integrated Service Center for the Elderly saw 18 Melco volunteers spend their free time with the center’s residents, playing table tennis. Mr. Raymond Lo, Melco’s Senior Vice President of Casino Sales, Marketing and Operations inaugurated the table tennis session and shared ways of playing the sport, encouraging a healthier, more active lifestyle for the center’s residents. After the session, teatime snacks were served and enjoyed by the elderly beneficiaries and Melco’s volunteers.

Pou Tai Integrated Service Center for the Elderly provides for approximately 320 senior citizens over the age of 60; including daycare, care homes and accommodation for those in good health condition. The Melco event was well-aligned with the center’s mission to facilitate a balanced state of body and mind.

Since 2007, close to 101,000 colleague participants have joined Melco’s CSR activities, with an aim to give back to the community it serves and make a positive difference in the lives of others. Children are also welcome to join many of Melco’s volunteering events, as the objectives of the Melco-developed initiative, “Teaching Children Values,” is for children to be taught important life values through the act of volunteering, and to gain meaningful experiences through devoting their personal time and energy to the society.
