MGTO ‘optimistic’ on annual visitor count

The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) announced on Friday that the overall tourism performance for July and August has been “positive”. Provisional data indicates that approximately 3.45 million visitors arrived in July, with an average daily visitor count of around 110,000. Cheng Wai Tong, MGTO deputy director, reported that from January to July this year, visitor numbers exceeded 22 million, reflecting a growth rate of 14%, which he described as “ideal.” He also noted that, based on past trends, visitor numbers in August are expected to be “even better.” For this reason, authorities remain optimistic about annual visitor growth this year, especially during the National Games period slated for November, when an increase in visitors to Macau is anticipated.
