MSAR starts youth visitor program

Macau will organize thousands of young people to visit Chinese mainland in the next three years, the Government Spokesperson’s Office announced yesterday.The local government plans to initiate the “One Thousand Visitors Plan” in order to send 1,000 youth to visit the Chinese mainland every year. According to Xinhua, the three-year program intends to help young Macau people to have deeper and wider understanding of Chinese mainland, and encourage them to participate in the development of the nation. In cooperation with China’s education ministry and All-China Youth Federation, the program is led by the Office of the Chief Executive and run by the Macau Foundation. The visitors will be selected from middle schools and youth organizations. The first batch of visitors will come to Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai, with itinerary featuring leadership building, science and technology innovation, as well as culture and arts.

15,605 Vietnamese workers sent overseas

As many as 15,605 Vietnamese workers were sent abroad in the first two months of this year, according to VOV News, 29 of whom came to Macau. Of the total workers sent abroad, 6,695 were female. The 15,605 workers account for 15.61 percent of government’s yearly plan, equivalent to 90.69 percent of last year’s planned numbers. According to the latest figures released by the Overseas Labor Management Department of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, 6,978 Vietnamese workers were dispatched to work overseas last month alone. Taiwan received the largest number of workers at 3,963 in February, followed by Japan (2,215), Malaysia (503), Saudi Arabia (118) and South Korea (57).
