Music Legendary Cellist performs at CCM

The Macao Cultural Centre (CCM) presented Mischa Maisky in a cello recital at its Grand Auditorium last Friday.

The master cellist was accompanied by his pianist daughter Lily Maisky and performed a wide range of masterpieces by musical talents such as Gabriel Fauré, César Franck and Astor Piazzolla. The performance included works composed by Camille Saint-Saëns and Francis Poulenc, according to a statement released by CCM.

Regarded as a true heir of Russia’s delicate poetry and technical brilliance, Maisky was the disciple of master cellists Mstislav Rostropovich and Gregor Piatigorsky and a frequent collaborator of renowned pianists such as Martha Argerich, Boris Berman and Radu Lupu, amongst many others.

His recordings have won numerous awards, such as the Record Academy Prize in Tokyo. Besides his prizes and studio work, the legendary musician has been playing with many of the best orchestras in the world, like the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonics.

Music critic Chow Fan Fu hosted an accompanying talk introducing the audience to the cello and sharing his views on the master and the repertoire to be played at the concert.

Maisky is set to perform his next concert in Taiwan.
