Offbeat | Woman struck by cyclist in Central Park dies

A woman struck by a bicyclist while walking in New York’s Central Park has died, according to her husband, CBS Corp. executive Michael Wittman.
Jill Tarlov, 58, of Fairfield, Connecticut, “has been taken from us far too soon,” Wittman, CBS Television Stations’ senior vice president of finance, said in a statement. “On behalf of our family, I would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers.”
Tarlov was hit by a bicycle ridden by a 31-year-old man on Sept. 18 at West Drive and 63rd Street, according to police. She was taken to New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center and in critical condition after the crash. The man was traveling south on West Drive when he swerved to avoid pedestrians and collided with the woman, according to police.
The incident is the second fatality involving a pedestrian hit by a cyclist in Central Park in less than two months. A 75- year-old Upper East Side man, Irving Schachter, died Aug. 5, two days after he was struck by a 17-year-old bicyclist while jogging in the park on East Drive near East 72nd Street, police said.
