Over 2,000 join Macau Tower CNY charity walk

More than 2,000 participants took part in the 2026 Chinese New Year Charity Tower Walk at Macau Tower Convention & Entertainment Centre last week, continuing a tradition held on the third day of the Lunar New Year.

The event featured a full-course morning climb of 1,298 steps from ground level to the 61st floor, and a half-course afternoon route starting from the 38th floor to the observation deck. Around 600 participants competed in the full-course challenge across men’s, women’s, and youth divisions. Ho Chun Ting Timothy won the men’s race in 7 minutes and 59 seconds, while Ruby Mak topped the women’s division in 11 minutes and 8 seconds.

First launched in 2009, the annual charity walk has drawn over 20,000 participants to date. Proceeds benefit the Macau Red Cross. Organizers said the event promotes community engagement while supporting charitable causes during the festive season.
