PSP acts on tip-off to uncover illegal accommodation in Taipa

Acting on a tip-off received from an undisclosed source, the Public Security Police Force (PSP) has uncovered another case of a residential apartment in Taipa being used for illegal accommodation.

According to the PSP report, the residential unit involved in the case is located at Rua do Regedor in Taipa Old Village.

Upon arriving at the location, the PSP found eight men and women from mainland China. During questioning, all eight people admitted to renting bed spaces in the unit, stating that an unknown person had referred them to the unit manager for rental.

They also revealed that the daily rent ranged from approximately HKD100 to HKD150.

The police also found that the rooms of the apartment were fitted with bunk beds, allowing four to six people to stay in each room.

As the unit was suspected of illegally providing lodging, the PSP notified the Macao Government Tourism Office for further investigation and procedures, including sealing off the unit.

According to several PSP reports this year, this type of case has become increasingly common, particularly in areas such as Taipa Old Village, the Central District, the Central Area, and NAPE on the Peninsula.

In a separate report on another police operation under the code name “Thunder 2026,” the same force stopped and inspected a total of 45 vehicles between July 23 and 24.

According to the PSP, the 45 inspections resulted in eight cases of fines for traffic-related violations, including two cases of failure to wear a seatbelt, two cases of using a mobile phone while driving, one case of riding a motorcycle on a sidewalk, one case of having a non-compliant license plate, one case of driving without insurance, and one case of driving under the influence of alcohol.
