Residents slam gov’t for Inner Harbour flooding

£®…Áª·£©∞ƒ√≈∂‡¥¶µÿ«¯ÀÆΩ˛º∞œ•During the TDM Forum on Sunday, residents and community representatives criticized the authorities for their inability to resolve the flooding problem in the Inner Harbour area.
When typhoon Kalmaegi passed by Macau last week, it caused serious flooding to the area, as well as to Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro (San Ma Lo).
Some of the residents who spoke at the forum pointed out that the public has no idea why the government reacted so slowly. They also said that a 2011 project, which sought to tackle the issue, has yet to be implemented.
Kou Kun Pang, a member of the government’s Traffic Consultative Committee, said that the administration already established an inter-departmental task group to handle the flooding issue in 2011. Nevertheless, he claimed that some infrastructure, like the floodgates, will not be completed until 2015.
Macau Institution of Engineers president Wu Chou Kit claimed that he went to the area to undertake observations and found that nothing has been done yet.
Lawmaker Ng Kuok Cheong also claimed that the administration has been stalling works to resolve the flooding in the area for years. He thinks that some officials should be held responsible.
