Retail sales value falls 3.2% in 2025

Macau’s total retail sales value declined by 3.2% year-on-year in 2025 to MOP69.58 billion, according to data from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

In the fourth quarter of 2025, retail sales value rose 4.2% year-on-year to MOP19.21 billion and increased 14.6% compared with the revised third-quarter figure. Sales of communication equipment surged 46.1%, while watches, clocks and jewelry grew 29.9%. However, supermarkets, department stores and leather goods recorded declines.

After adjusting for price effects, the overall sales volume index fell slightly by 0.1% year-on-year in the fourth quarter. Significant decreases were seen in supermarkets, motor vehicles and pharmacies, while communication equipment and cosmetics and sanitary articles posted growth.

For 2025 as a whole, leather goods and department store sales dropped 11.0% and 5.6% respectively, while communication equipment rose 11.4%.

The average retail sales volume index declined 5.9%, with watches, jewellery, motor vehicles and leather goods recording the largest contractions. Conversely, communication equipment registered 10.8% growth.

According to DSEC, retailers generally held cautious expectations for business performance in early 2026. LV
