Sands China assembles 3,000 food kits for Caritas annual community drive

Sands China Ltd. and more than 300 volunteers assembled 3,000 food kits yesterday at The Venetian Macao as part of the company’s fourth annual Sands Cares Global Food Kit Build. The initiative supports local families and individuals facing food insecurity.

Volunteers included Sands China team members, elderly participants from Caritas Macau’s “Longevity” Special Care Centre, and students from Macau Polytechnic University. The kits contain 16 items, such as rice, oatmeal, canned food, and soup packs sourced from local suppliers including Tung Sin Tong and the Fuhong Society of Macau. Sands China estimates the total weight of the donations at 30 tons.

The kits will be distributed by Caritas Macau to elderly residents, people with disabilities, low-income families, and food bank recipients. Sands Cares Ambassadors will assist with deliveries.

Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman of Sands China, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to social responsibility, noting that since 2022, over 11,000 kits have been assembled under the program. “When our team members volunteer their personal time, the Sands Cares concept turns into tangible warmth,” Wong said.

Caritas Secretary-General Paul Pun Chi Meng described the donation as both material support and a sign of societal solidarity. “The food kits will directly benefit families in need and reduce their daily burden,” he said.

The event is part of the wider Sands Cares program, which includes global initiatives focused on hardship relief, disaster response, education, and nonprofit capacity-building.
