Sands China marks 1.1 billion-visitor milestone

Sands China Ltd. has welcomed more than 1.1 billion visitors to its properties in Macau, marking a milestone in two decades of development in the city.

The company celebrated the achievement last week at The Venetian Macao, which also marked its 18th anniversary.

Executives including Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman, and Grant Chum, chief executive officer, presented a welcome ceremony for the 1.1 billionth guest.

Sands China opened its first property, Sands Macao, in 2004 and later expanded to the Cotai Strip with The Venetian Macao in 2007.

Subsequent developments include The Plaza Macao, The Parisian Macao, and The Londoner Macao, forming a network of integrated resorts that have reshaped Cotai’s skyline.

“Surpassing 1.1 billion arrivals is not only a significant milestone for the company, but also a testament to the popularity of Macau’s tourism offerings and the vitality and sustainability of its economic development,” said Wong.

“Moving forward, we will continue to work alongside Macau and invest in non-gaming projects to polish further its ‘golden business card’ as an international metropolis, showcasing its unique charm to both residents and visitors from around the world,” he added.

According to the gaming operator, Sands China’s cumulative investment in Macau has exceeded MOP134.5 billion. The company’s integrated resorts offer over 10,000 hotel rooms, 150 dining options, and 760 retail outlets. Times reporter
