The government will soon expand public sports facilities in the Zone A and Taipa areas, including a full-size football field, athletics track, and recreational amenities, the Land and Urban Construction Bureau (DSSCU) confirmed.
The announcement came in response to a written query by lawmaker Ma Io Fong.
The new football field will be constructed on Lot B13 in Zone A and will include a running track and spaces for leisure activities.
In addition, the government plans to install basketball and badminton courts near Nam Van Lake and adjacent to School of the Nations in Taipa.
According to the DSSCU, because these sites are close to residential areas, the opening hours of the facilities will be carefully managed.
Priority will be given to physical education classes at nearby schools, while other time slots will remain available for use by community groups.
Ma had also proposed introducing inflatable sports facilities, citing their quick construction, lower cost, and flexibility for short-term use.
However, the authorities said such structures are a relatively new technology and must comply with safety, construction, and fire regulations, making their implementation complex.
He additionally urged the government to study provisional uses for reserved land and to create a unified management platform to share information on short-, medium-, and long-term development plans.
The DSSCU said information about reserved plots has already been made public through various channels, ensuring transparency for government departments and the community.
The government emphasized that it continuously reviews reserved land for temporary public use, including potential spaces for parking, community facilities, and other recreational activities in a bid to meet residents’ needs. LV
